Overview of Aberdare National Park
Aberdare National Park is one of Kenya’s most unique safari destinations, located within the scenic Aberdare Mountain Range. Unlike open savannah parks, Aberdare offers dense forests, bamboo zones, moorlands, waterfalls, and cool mountain weather.
The park is part of a vital water catchment ecosystem that feeds rivers supplying Nairobi and central Kenya. It is also famous for rare wildlife such as the bongo antelope and forest elephants.
Historically, the park is known for Treetops Lodge, where Queen Elizabeth II became queen in 1952. Today, it remains a peaceful, less crowded safari destination ideal for nature lovers.
Landscape & Geography
The landscape of Aberdare is highly diverse, ranging from thick rainforest to alpine peaks. The lower zones are covered in dense vegetation while higher elevations open into moorlands and rocky cliffs.
Waterfalls like Karuru Falls (270m) and Chania Falls make the park one of the most scenic in Kenya.
Mist often covers the forest creating a magical and dramatic safari atmosphere.
