The journey then continues to Serengeti National Park, Tanzania's most famous wildlife destination. Here, guests experience vast open plains filled with wildlife, including predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards, along with large herds of wildebeest and zebras. You may witness a lion pride finishing a kill, a solitary leopard returning to its lair, or hyenas playing at their den. The morning light also offers exceptional photography conditions. An optional visit to the small museum can be arranged (extra fee). Upon arrival in the Ngorongoro area, you will check in at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge, located directly on the crater rim. Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive – Return to Arusha

UNESCO World Heritage Black rhino Big Five

After an early breakfast, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day game drive with a packed lunch. The crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, formed approximately 2.5 million years ago. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best wildlife viewing destinations in Africa due to its dense concentration of animals in a natural enclosed ecosystem. The crater floor covers 260 square kilometers and is home to around 25,000 large animals, including the rare black rhino, large prides of lions, elephants, buffalo, spotted hyenas, and hippos in the Gorigor Swamp.

Your guide will take you to different zones of the crater: the Lake Magadi area (alkaline lake attracting flamingos), the Lerai Forest (leopard territory), the Gorigor Swamp (hippos), and the open grasslands (zebras, wildebeests, and gazelles). You may also see cheetahs, jackals, golden cats, and the elusive serval. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated hippo pool or a scenic viewpoint. In the afternoon, you will ascend the crater and begin your return journey to Arusha. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel or transferred to the airport for your onward flight. Best Time to Visit Tanzania for This 5-Day Safari

This 5-day safari to Tarangire, Serengeti and Ngorongoro can be enjoyed throughout the year, but each season offers a different experience. The dry season (June to October) is widely considered the best time for wildlife viewing. During these months, animals gather around permanent water sources like the Tarangire River and the Ngorongoro Crater lakes, making them easier to spot. The Great Migration is typically in the Serengeti during this period, with river crossings in the north (July-October).

The wet season (November to May) offers lush green landscapes, fewer tourists, and lower rates. This is also the calving season (January to February) when thousands of wildebeest are born in the southern Serengeti – a spectacular time for predator action. Tarangire is particularly beautiful during the green season, with the baobab trees in full leaf and migratory birds present. The Ngorongoro Crater is excellent year-round, though the rim can be foggy in the wet months.

Peak wildlife: June-October
Great Migration: July-October
Calving season: Jan-Feb
Low rates: March-May & November

Tarangire National Park

The Seronera River Valley is excellent for leopards, and the Mara River offers dramatic crossing scenes.

Also home to lions (including some with black manes), elephants, buffalo, spotted hyenas, hippos, flamingos on Lake Magadi, and numerous antelope species. The crater's enclosed nature ensures consistent sightings.

Photography Tips for This Safari

For the best safari photos, bring a telephoto lens (200-500mm) for wildlife and a wide-angle lens (24-70mm) for landscapes. Use a fast shutter speed (1/500 or higher) for moving animals. The golden hour (sunrise and sunset) provides warm, dramatic light. In the Ngorongoro Crater, early morning often has mist rising from the crater floor – use a polarizing filter to reduce glare. In Tarangire, the baobab trees against a sunset sky make iconic images. Always carry extra batteries and memory cards.

Conservation & Responsible Travel

By booking this 5-day Tanzania safari, you directly support conservation efforts and local communities. Park fees contribute to anti-poaching patrols, wildlife research, and habitat protection. The Tarangire Elephant Project works to reduce human-elephant conflict, while the Serengeti Lion Project monitors predator populations. We also partner with lodges that employ local staff, source food locally, and practice eco-friendly operations (solar power, water conservation, waste reduction). Please respect wildlife by maintaining a safe distance and never feeding animals.
